Compensation Claim for Cycling Accident Caused by Employer

30th March 2009

A man injured in a cycling accident whilst on his way to work recovered compensation recently, in a personal injury case handled by our specialist personal injury lawyers.

Injured Cyclist

At the time of his accident, our client was cycling to work in the early morning. Almost at the end of his journey, whilst on his employer’s premises, his bicycle slipped on ice and he was thrown to the ground.

The road had not been gritted and, in addition to the hazard of the ice itself, the lighting was also insufficient and this made it impossible for the claimant to see the ice.

He suffered a fractured pelvis and also a serious soft tissue injury to his shoulder, so was in hospital for five weeks, required extensive treatment and had to take a considerable amount of time off from work. He was also expected to require further surgery in the future.

Claim Against Employer

The claimant felt that his employer could have prevented the accident by ensuring that the premises were in a safe condition. He therefore appointed our lawyers, who specialise in cases involving accidents at work, to assist him in making a claim.

They were able to recover a settlement of £35,000 in damages, in respect of the pain and suffering caused by his injuries, the costs he incurred as a result of the accident and the future cost of surgery and medical treatment.
