We recently pursued a personal injury claim on behalf of a catering supervisor who suffered an electric shock injury in an accident at work.
Our client was turning on a piece of kitchen equipment when she received an electric shock. She reported the accident to her employer and they took the machine away for repair, then brought it back into use. Unfortunately however it was still faulty and she received a second shock from it a few days later.
Because of her workplace accidents, our client’s hand and arm were jarred and she sustained a shoulder injury. Her symptoms included numbness, pain, tingling and restricted movement and she had trouble sleeping. She had to take time off work and needed help from her friends and family during her recovery, as she had difficulty with day-to-day tasks like housework and shopping.
Our client required physiotherapy and steroid injections to treat her injury, which took more than a year to resolve.
The employee felt that her injury could have been avoided if her employer had provided safe equipment. She therefore approached us for help with a compensation claim.
The other side denied that they were responsible for the accident and tried to say that there was nothing wrong with the appliance. We therefore issued court proceedings. They then made an initial offer of £3,000, but we advised our client to reject this as it was low in light of the injury she suffered. Through negotiations we were able to secure an increased offer and our client received £7,000 in damages. This highlights the importance of using a specialist personal injury lawyer, as without expert advice our client may not have received the full amount she was entitled to.
If you have been injured at work by faulty equipment, or in any other accident that was someone else’s fault, you may be entitled to compensation.
