Our lawyers recently secured compensation on behalf of a Jobcentre Plus employee, injured in an accident at work.
John Burdett, a customer care officer, attended work the morning after some building renovations had been carried out. When he opened the office and began to walk through it, some computer wires caught around his foot and caused him to fall onto the corner of a desk.
The wires had been left trailing across the floor from a nearby desk and, as Mr Burdett fell, he injured his neck, arms and shoulders and fractured his ribs.
Mr Burdett appointed The Legal Line’s lawyers to handle his personal injury claim and they obtained both medical evidence of the severity of his injuries and photographic evidence of the condition of the office.
Liability was accepted by Jobcentre Plus, which is part of the Department of Work and Pensions, and they agreed to pay damages.
Mr Burdett commented: “You hear of people having nasty accidents at work, but you don't expect to sustain such injuries in the relative calm and quiet of an office. My employer admitted liability so it was simply a case of agreeing a reasonable level of compensation, which Thompsons has swiftly managed to do on my behalf.”
His lawyer, Warinder Juss, said: "This case highlights the fact that any working environment can be a danger if proper care isn't taken to protect employees.”
