Compensation Claim Against MoD for Injured Employee

31st July 2008

Our lawyers recently recovered compensation from the Ministry of Defence, on behalf of a woman who suffered a personal injury whilst serving in the Royal Navy.

Injured at Work

At the time of her accident, the claimant was working in the tool control area of a hangar on a Royal Naval Air Station. Her job was to make sure that any equipment collected for use was signed for.

As the claimant went to retrieve some equipment from a shelf and began to pull it towards her, the shelf itself moved as it was completely unsecured. This caused another item to fall towards her and she had to move to the side and apply some force to prevent the equipment from falling and push the shelf back into a safe position. The shelf was repaired after the accident to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

This accident at work resulted in the claimant suffering injuries to her shoulder and lower back. She was unable to work for some time after the accident and had to give up Judo, which she had previously competed in at a high level.

Military Injury Claim

The claimant felt that the accident could have been prevented if the shelf was in a safe condition. She therefore appointed our specialist personal injury lawyers to assist her in pursuing a claim against the MoD, as they have extensive experience in military injury claims.

They secured over £27,000 compensation in respect of her injuries and related losses, including her loss of earnings.
