Our specialist personal injury lawyers recently acted on behalf of a man who suffered a personal injury in an accident at work, due to a lack of health and safety provisions for manual handling.
In the course of his work as an ambulance technician, our client and a colleague were called out to a prison to attend a patient. It was necessary to take the patient to hospital, as he was seriously unwell, which involved carrying him down some flights of stairs and across an uneven floor surface using a carry chair.
The patient was a large man and the chair provided was not suitable for use on stairs. There had been previous complaints about the chairs and they were due to be replaced with a different type. It was therefore very difficult to move the patient out to the ambulance and our client suffered shoulder and back injuries during the manoeuvre. He required hospital treatment and eventually had to be retired from his job on medical grounds.
We were appointed by the injured man to pursue a personal injury claim on his behalf. His employer initially denied that they were responsible for his workplace accident, so it was necessary for us to commence court proceedings.
Through negotiations with the defendants however we were able to secure a settlement of £55,000 in compensation before the case went to trial. This sum took into account our client’s injuries and also his financial losses, including his loss of earnings, medical expenses and loss of future pension rights.
If you suffer an injury as the result of an accident at work caused by unsuitable equipment, you may be entitled to make an injury claim.
