The Legal Line’s solicitors are acting on behalf of hundreds of former employees of Turner and Newall, who were exposed to asbestos at their factories and plants and have developed asbestos related illnesses as a result.
In 2001 the parent company of Turner and Newall, Federal Mogul, went into administration. As a result the claims on behalf of thousands of former workers, suffering debilitating illnesses such as asbestosis and pleural thickening, were frozen.
Now (11th October 2006) after over five years of waiting, the freeze has been lifted and the compensation claims can finally go ahead.
Unfortunately this is too late for over 100 former Turner and Newall employees, who have died whilst waiting for their settlements.
Many employees of the company were exposed to deadly asbestos dust every day at work. The inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause scarring of the lungs leading to a range of illnesses, including fatal diseases such as mesothelioma.
Many victims rely on their compensation to make their lives more comfortable, cover care costs or make up for lost earnings, so it is of utmost importance that they receive the damages that they are entitled to.
A deal negotiated by administrators with Federal Mogul’s insurers will see claimants who worked for Turner and Newall after 1969 sharing a compensation fund of £36m, whilst those employed by the company prior to 1969 will share a fund of £33m.
These schemes are now ready to receive claims from claimants’ lawyers and our lawyers will be working to ensure that the victims, or their dependants, receive their compensation as soon as possible.
