We recently acted in a personal injury claim on behalf of a cashier, who was injured in a fall at work.
Our client and a colleague were taking bags of cash to a safe when her workplace accident occurred. She tripped on some discarded bands that had been left on the floor by someone else and this caused her to fall.
The bands are used to secure bundles of bank notes and they are supposed to be disposed of in a waste sack after use, however this procedure had not been followed.
As she fell, our client struck a wall and suffered multiple fractures to her wrist. She had to wear a plaster cast for a number of weeks because of this painful injury, she could not enjoy a planned family holiday and she was unable to drive, or care for herself without assistance, during her recovery. She also had to take several months off work.
Although the fractures healed and our client had physiotherapy treatment to regain normal use of her wrist, she was left with some ongoing problems.
We pursued a compensation claim against the injured cashier’s employer, as they failed to ensure she was provided with a safe place of work. They admitted liability.
To ensure that our client received the correct amount of compensation, we obtained a medical report about her personal injury and submitted this together with details of her financial losses. We rejected the defendants’ first offer, which was low, and negotiated for an increase. She eventually received over £8,000 in damages, almost double the original offer.
