A kitchen assistant was injured at work when a faulty oven caused an explosion. Our specialist personal injury lawyers made a successful compensation claim on her behalf.
On the day her workplace accident occurred, our client had been called to help out in a different kitchen than the one she usually works in. Her normal duties are based around cleaning, but she was asked to assist with preparing the kitchen for use, which involved lighting the oven. She and a colleague were trying to light the oven when there was a loud bang and flash flame.
Our client was thrown backwards from the oven by the blast and she sustained injuries to her neck and shoulder from the fall. She also suffered facial burns. During her recovery she had to take some time off work and she needed help from family members. Physiotherapy was necessary to treat her neck and shoulder and she also required treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.
After the accident an engineer examined the oven. It was found to be faulty and was taken out of use. Our client therefore felt that her employer was to blame for her accident, as they supplied faulty work equipment. She instructed our lawyers, who are specialists in accidents at work, to assist her with an injury claim.
We began a claim against her employer and they admitted liability. We secured an interim payment to help with the costs of her treatment until the case could be concluded and obtained medical evidence to put forward to the other side. They came back with an initial offer but this was low in light of our client’s injuries, so we rejected it and negotiated an increase. She received a total of over £8,000 compensation.
If you suffer a personal injury as the result of an accident at work, or any other accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to claim compensation.
