Our expert personal injury lawyers recently acted on behalf of the family of a man who was tragically killed in a cycling accident. A successful compensation claim was made against the negligent driver who caused the accident.
The deceased was cycling along a single carriageway at the time of the accident. A tractor pulled out from an entrance into his path, a short distance after a sharp bend, and there was a fatal collision.
Although drivers have very limited visibility of the road when pulling out from the entrance, the driver of the tractor came out in one manoeuvre, without first edging out to gain a better view and warn other road users of his presence.
The family of the cyclist appointed our lawyers to pursue a claim on their behalf. The defendant’s insurance company did put forward an initial offer of compensation, this was not reasonable and did not reflect the circumstances. We therefore rejected the offer and commenced court proceedings.
It was not necessary for the case to proceed to trial however, as we were able to reach an agreement through negotiations. The family of the deceased received £210,000 in damages.
