A woman who was seriously hurt in an animal attack whilst out walking her dogs received compensation recently, with assistance from our specialist personal injury solicitors.
At the time of the incident, our client was walking her dogs along a National Trust public footpath that ran through a field.
There were some cows with calves in the field and they were not separated from the path. The claimant saw the cows and put her dogs over a wall into an adjacent field to avoid upsetting them.
Whilst walking towards a gate to leave the field however, one of the cows charged her and trampled over her.
Our client felt that the farmer was negligent in allowing cows with calves to be in a field accessible by the public and she appointed our lawyers to assist her in making a personal injury claim.
Cows are known to act more aggressively when with their young, as they behave in a protective manner. This makes them more likely to attack members of the public and the tenant farmer responsible for them should have fenced them off.
Liability was admitted and our lawyers were able to negotiate a settlement of £54,000 in damages for the injured claimant.
If you or a member of your family has been injured in an accident in a public place as the result of someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim.
