Whilst attending a New Year’s Eve party, our client suffered a personal injury when she slipped due to excessive amounts of spilt liquid on the floor. Our expert personal injury lawyers assisted her in recovering compensation.
At the time of her accident, the claimant was attending a party at a local Civic Hall. There was a large amount of spilt alcohol on the dance floor, which had not been cleared away by the staff and no warning signs were in place.
She slipped and fell, badly injuring her chin, and required hospital treatment. The claimant felt that the local authority was to blame and appointed our lawyers to assist her in making a compensation claim.
Witness evidence was provided by several party guests as to the poor condition of the floor. CCTV footage from the first aid room after the accident also showed that the claimant was not drunk, and she was wearing the type of footwear that would be expected for an evening out.
It was argued by the defendant that they had a suitable system of inspection and cleaning in place, however the details provided showed that not all the staff on the rota had attended work that night and the cleaning duties could not have been carried out as intended.
The Judge therefore found in favour of the injured claimant and awarded damages in respect of her personal injury and associated losses.
If you or a member of your family has been injured as the result of an accident in a public place, you may be entitled to claim compensation if someone else was to blame.
