Fitter Suffers Spinal Injury in Fall From Height

In a recent personal injury claim, our specialist lawyers recovered compensation for a man who suffered injuries in an accident at work when he fell from a ladder.
Fall at Work
In the course of his work as a fitter our client was working with colleagues at a height of around 15-20 feet, fastening covers to the top of a large tank. He was using a ladder to access the top of the tank.
A hole on one of the covers would not line up for a bolt to be passed through, so our client had to apply force with his hand in an attempt to move it into place. As he did so however, the ladder shifted beneath him and he fell to the ground.
Our client suffered injuries to most of his lower body, including a spinal fracture and soft tissue injuries to his back, legs and hips. He took some time off work to recover but, due to the nature of his injuries, he was never able to return to work for the same company and had to seek a less physical job elsewhere.
A previously fit and active man, our client was left with permanently restricted mobility and now requires assistance with things he could previously do unaided, such as gardening and DIY. He is also unable to enjoy his previous hobbies of walking and visiting historical sites.
Claim Against Employer

They admitted responsibility for the accident and we were able to obtain an interim payment to help our client financially whilst the case was in progress. We obtained medical reports to show the extent of his injuries and negotiated with the other side, as a result of which we secured a total compensation settlement in excess of £24,000.
