In a recent case, our specialist industrial disease lawyers recovered £18,000 compensation on behalf of a victim of the asbestos related condition, pleural thickening.
It is now widely known that asbestos is hazardous to humans and can cause a number of illnesses. This includes pleural thickening, where the lining of the lungs becomes thickened, scarred and constricted, causing breathing problems.
The claimant had been exposed to asbestos over approximately 7 years during the 1960s through his employment and was diagnosed with both pleural thickening and pleural plaques as a result of this.
Prior to developing his industrial illnesses, the claimant was an active gentleman and enjoyed walking as a hobby. This was affected by his condition, as was his general quality of life, so he decided to make a personal injury compensation claim with help from our expert lawyers.
The Judge made a provisional award of £18,000 general damages. This was made on the basis that the claimant would not go on to develop any further injury. If any further injuries did arise however, they could be assessed at a future hearing.
If you or a member of your family has developed pleural thickening, or any other asbestos related disease, you may be entitled to claim compensation.
