An airport worker was badly injured in an accident at work when a 5 tonne vehicle fell onto him because of an unsuitable piece of equipment. Our specialist personal injury lawyers acted on his behalf in a compensation claim and secured over £42,000 in damages.
At the time of his accident, the claimant was repairing an electric baggage truck at work. The vehicle was raised with a hydraulic jack, axle stands were put into place to support it and the wheels were prevented from moving by wooden chocks.
Unfortunately, as he was underneath the vehicle, one of the axle stands collapsed. The baggage truck crushed our client and he was trapped for a short while until the vehicle could be removed, after which he was taken to hospital for treatment.
His shoulder was badly dislocated and there was severe bruising to his hip and lower back. He was also very distressed by what happened as he feared for his life during the incident.
The injuries our client suffered left him with long term problems and he also had to take a long period of absence from work. Because of the continuing pain and restricted use of his shoulder, he now finds it difficult to continue with fishing, a keen hobby of his for many years.
The claimant appointed our expert lawyers to assist him in making a personal injury claim against his employer.
They admitted responsibility for the accident, as the axle stand provided was not suitable for the work. The stands were also removed from service in light of what happened. A settlement of £42,000 in compensation was negotiated in respect of his injuries and losses.
If you have been injured in a workplace accident and believe that your employer was to blame, you may be entitled to make a personal injury claim.
