In a recent case handled by our expert lawyers, a man who suffered a personal injury in a cycling accident when he was hit from behind by a van received over £14,000 compensation.
Our client was cycling along a road on a dry, sunny day when a van suddenly hit him from behind with force. He was thrown from his bicycle onto the road and the driver admitted he was responsible for the collision, stating that the sun had obscured his vision.
The cyclist suffered a fractured elbow, a nasty arm wound and extensive bruising to his body because of this road accident. He was taken to hospital by ambulance for initial treatment, then underwent physiotherapy and hydrotherapy when the fracture was healed to help regain normal use of his arm. Unfortunately however, he was still left with some long term discomfort. There was also a scar from the wound and, understandably, our client became less confident when cycling.
We pursued a claim against the company responsible for the van on behalf of the victim. Liability was accepted, so we compiled medical evidence and began negotiations with the other side with a view to securing an appropriate sum of damages.
Whilst this process was ongoing we obtained interim payments for our client, to cover the repairs to his bicycle, a replacement helmet and clothing and some treatment costs he incurred. After rejecting an initial, lower offer from the defendants, we obtained a total settlement of over £14,000.
