As specialists in compensation claims for serious injuries, our lawyers were able to recover damages for a Kent man who lost a limb as the result of an accident at work.
At the time of his workplace accident, Roger Adams was operating a tractor mower in the grounds of North West Kent College, where he is employed as a groundsman.
Whilst cutting the grass on an outfield, the mower became blocked with grass cuttings and he tried to clear the obstruction. In attempting to do this he suffered a very traumatic and painful accident. His left forearm was amputated and he has since undergone 11 operations. As a result of the accident, Mr Adams now requires a prosthetic limb and is only able to work on a part time basis.
Mr Adams appointed The Legal Line’s specialist personal injury lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors, to assist him in making an accident compensation claim.
Initially his employer tried to suggest that he had not taken sufficient care and alleged that the accident was his fault, however a Health and Safety investigation led to the manufacturers of the mower, Kubota, being prosecuted. After High Court proceedings were initiated, the college agreed to a settlement out of court.
Mr Adams received compensation for the pain and suffering he endured and in respect of his future loss of earnings, as it is unlikely he will continue to work until the normal retirement age, taking into account the difficulties he now suffers. Additionally, the compensation awarded will help to cover the cost of the care and assistance that he now requires.
If you or a member of your family has suffered a serious personal injury, whether it occurred in an accident at work or any other type of accident, you may be entitled to claim compensation if someone else was to blame.
