A man was injured at work when he fell on a staircase because of insufficient lighting. Our expert lawyers made a successful personal injury claim on his behalf and he received compensation.
At the time of his workplace accident our client was descending some stairs. There was a light at the top of the staircase, however this was broken and there was no light on the landing at the bottom of the first flight of steps.
Because he could not see clearly, he thought that he had reached the bottom step and went to step onto the landing. In fact, however, there was still another step to go. He therefore lost his footing, stumbled and fell.
As a result of this accident at work, our client sustained injuries to his neck and torso. He experienced discomfort for several months but eventually made a good recovery.
Employers have a strict duty to provide suitable and sufficient lighting. The broken light made it difficult for our client to use the stairs safely and even when working it did not illuminate the whole staircase. After the accident additional lights were fitted.
The injured employee appointed our specialist personal injury lawyers to assist him in making a compensation claim. His employer denied that they were responsible for the accident, so we took the case to Court. The Judge examined our evidence and agreed that the lighting was inadequate. He found in favour of our client, who received damages in respect of his personal injury.
