Compensation for Hospital Employee Injured in Slipping Accident at Work

Our lawyers recently assisted a woman who suffered long term damage to her ankle in a workplace accident. A successful personal injury claim was made against her employers and she was awarded compensation.
Injured at Work
A broken appliance had caused some flooding in an area of the claimant’s workplace and an electrician was called in to fix it. The staff were made aware of this and warning cones were put out whilst the floor was wet and the repairs took place.
Later that day, the electrician had finished and the cones were removed, so our client proceeded into the area, assuming it was now safe to do so. Unfortunately the floor was still wet and she slipped and fell, injuring her ankle as a result.
She was unable to attend work for a considerable period and required hospital treatment including physiotherapy, an operation and steroid injections. This did not resolve the problem however and our client was left with long term pain and restricted use of her ankle.
Personal Injury Claim
The injured employee felt that her employer was responsible for her accident at work, as they failed to ensure that the workplace was in a safe condition. We asserted that the hospital had not employed sufficient health and safety measures to protect employees from the risk of injury. Court proceedings were commenced, liability was established and a suitable agreement was reached. The claimant was awarded over £38,000 in damages.
