A young woman suffered a personal injury whilst attending the theatre, due to a tripping hazard in the seating area. Our specialist personal injury lawyers handled a compensation claim on her behalf.
On the day of her accident, our client was attending the theatre to see a musical. Her seat was located where the orchestra pit would normally be, but the area was in use for seating, as is sometimes the case when there is no orchestra playing.
The floor was sloping and so there was a ‘wedge’ beneath the front of the seating to level it. The seats were also of a style where the front legs protruded further forward than the arm rests. There was therefore a tripping hazard and the claimant stumbled and fell. She suffered a deep laceration to her knee, which had to be stitched at hospital and left a visible scar.
Our lawyers have extensive experience in recovering damages for the victims of accidents in public places and other slips, trips and falls. They were appointed to make a claim against the theatre company on the claimant’s behalf.
The case proceeded to trial and the Judge found that the seat leg constituted a hazard and the defendants had not done all they could to ensure that their customers were safe when accessing their seats. Compensation of over £4,000 was awarded.
