£135,000 Compensation for Paramedic Injured at Work

19th August 2009

Our specialist personal injury lawyers recovered compensation for a paramedic, who was injured in an accident at work and forced to retire early due to his neck injury.

Personal Injury

The claimant was getting out of an ambulance via the rear doors when his accident occurred. One of the doors came away from the securing device that should have been holding it open and it swung towards him, striking his head and face forcefully.

As a result of the accident he suffered serious damage to his neck and shoulder. Despite undergoing major surgery for this spinal injury, our client was left with permanent problems and had to be medically retired.

Injury Compensation Claim

Our lawyers are experts in workplace accident cases and the claimant appointed us to act on his behalf in a personal injury claim. He felt that if the securing device had been safer and more suitable his injury could have been prevented.

His employer admitted responsibility for the accident and an initial offer of just under £9,000 compensation was made. As our client was still receiving treatment at that stage however, he took our advice to delay settlement until his prognosis was clear and instead accepted an interim payment.

When updated medical evidence confirmed that he would be unable to return to work, resulting in a loss of earnings and pension entitlement, and would suffer ongoing symptoms, our lawyers were able to secure a total settlement of damages of £135,000. This took into account the pain and suffering of his injuries, his financial losses and also expenses he incurred, including medical and care costs and travel expenses.
