Our expert personal injury solicitors recently secured compensation for a man who suffered a back injury when he was involved in an accident at work.
In the course of his job our client was driving a refuse lorry over uneven ground, on his way to empty it. A piston on the vehicle suddenly broke, causing the lorry to jolt very roughly, and he was thrown around inside the cab.
Our client sustained a personal injury as a result of the accident. His lower back was damaged and he was unable to return to work for several months. Physiotherapy and chiropractic treatments were necessary to help with his recovery and he had to rely on others for assistance with housework and personal care until his symptoms began to ease.
The injured employee instructed our lawyers to assist him with a personal injury claim.
Employers have a strict responsibility to provide work equipment that is safe and suitable and we pursued the claim on the basis that our client’s employer failed to do this. They admitted that the accident was their fault, but did not make an offer of compensation that reflected the extent of our client’s injury, so we issued Court proceedings.
Through negotiations we were able to secure over £12,000 in damages for our client before the case went to trial. This sum was in respect of the injury he suffered and also his financial losses, including his loss of earnings and the costs of medication, treatment and care.
If you have been injured in a workplace accident caused by faulty equipment, you may be entitled to make a compensation claim.
