A man left with a serious shoulder injury following an avoidable accident at work was awarded a significant sum of compensation recently, in a case handled by our specialist personal injury lawyers.
Our client was employed by the Ministry of Defence Police and, at the time of his workplace accident, he and some colleagues were taking part in a refresher course for handcuffing techniques.
He was involved in a role playing exercise, where he was playing the part of a prisoner being handcuffed. In the course of the exercise his colleague twisted his arm in the wrong direction, not in accordance with the instructions he was given. This caused our client to suffer a personal injury to his left shoulder.
The claimant’s injury was such that he required extensive medical treatment, including operations, injections into his shoulder and various types of physical therapy. Unfortunately however he was left with permanent problems and ongoing pain and he had to be medically retired from his job.
He also underwent counselling, as the pain of the injury and his loss of ability to work or participate in other activities as he could before affected his home life.
Our lawyers are experts in cases involving injuries at work, so the claimant instructed us to assist him in making a personal injury claim.
His employer admitted liability for the accident and we were able to obtain two interim payments to assist him financially whilst the case was in progress.
Medical evidence of our client’s injuries was put forward, however the defendants did not provide a suitable offer of damages so court proceedings were commenced. We were eventually able to negotiate a total settlement of £350,000 in respect of the claimant’s injuries and financial losses, including his loss of past and future earnings and medical expenses.
If you have suffered a personal injury as the result of an accident at work, or any other accident caused by the negligence of someone else, you may be in a position to make an injury claim.
