£32,000 Compensation for Rail Worker Injured in Accident at Work

7th May 2010

Our specialist personal injury lawyers recently secured compensation for a man who suffered a fractured wrist and arm due to an accident at work.

Injury at Work

At the time of his accident our client, a maintenance fitter, was working as normal. A cleaner lost control of a floor cleaning machine and collided with one of his colleagues, who in turn knocked some equipment onto our client. He fell as a result of this and sustained wrist and arm injuries.

The claimant required hospital treatment and was unable to attend work for approximately five months. He had to have assistance from family members with housework and personal care during his recovery and incurred costs for travel expenses during several months of physiotherapy.

Our client was unfortunately left with some permanent restriction of movement in the affected arm and he could no longer continue with his former occupation. He therefore suffered a considerable loss of earnings.

Personal Injury Claim

The injured employee appointed our lawyers, who have a wealth of experience in workplace accident cases, to assist him in making an injury claim.

We pursued a case against his employer, as they failed to ensure that the cleaner had received proper training on the use of the machine in order to operate it safely. Initially they were unwilling to put forward a reasonable offer of compensation, so we began Court proceedings. It was eventually possible to negotiate a suitable settlement however and we recovered £32,000 in damages in respect of our client’s personal injury and his related financial losses.
