Restaurant Employee Injured at Work by Leaking Fridge

Accident at Work
Our client worked in the kitchen at a restaurant. There was a problem with one of the refrigerators and it had leaked, causing a puddle on the floor. The water had not been cleaned away, no warning signs were put out to mark it and he was not made aware of the hazard.
He slipped on the water and his knee struck a nearby table with considerable force as a result. He had to have surgery and physiotherapy to treat his knee injury and it was around a year before he was recovered. This affected his ability to work, exercise and enjoy his hobbies.
Compensation Claim Against Employer
The injured employee felt if more care was taken over health and safety in his workplace his personal injury could have been prevented. He therefore came to us for help with a compensation claim.
We began a claim against his employer and they admitted liability, so the next step was to negotiate a suitable amount of damages. We instructed a medical expert to provide a report on our client’s injury and put forward details of his financial losses, including his loss of earnings and costs he incurred for prescriptions. He received £4,500.
