Serious Injury Compensation for Pedestrian Who Lost Leg in Road Accident

Pedestrian Hit by Car
Our client was standing at the rear of his car, which was parked in a parking space. Another driver reversed out of their space and collided with him, pinning him between the two vehicles.
His leg was crushed and he suffered very serious injuries. Sadly, doctors were unable to save his leg and it was necessary to amputate above the knee. Our client then required extensive rehabilitation and had to adapt to using a prosthetic limb.
Prior to this road accident, our client was a fit and active man. Although retired, he participated in various hobbies and social activities, enjoyed driving and travelling, and maintained his home and garden himself. After he was injured however, he lost a lot of his independence and required assistance with personal care and many day-to-day tasks. The claimant also continued to suffer from phantom limb pain and a lot of discomfort with his prosthesis and he needed ongoing physiotherapy.
His existing home was modified in the short-term as a temporary measure, but it was no longer suitable for his needs and eventually he had to move to another house. It was also not possible for him to continue driving a standard car, so he had to purchase and learn to drive an adapted vehicle.
Claim Against Driver
The claimant felt that the other driver was responsible for what happened, as they failed to exercise proper care when pulling out of the parking space and did not check behind them to ensure that no-one was in the way. He therefore appointed our expert lawyers to assist him in making a personal injury claim.
Liability was admitted and we began negotiations with the other side in respect of suitable compensation for our client. We were able to obtain substantial interim payments to cover the costs of his immediate care and accommodation requirements whilst the case was in progress and we secured total damages in excess of £450,000 on his behalf.
The compensation will help our client to have the best possible quality of life for the future, taking into account the costs of care, treatment, mobility aids and various other financial expenses he would not have incurred but for the accident.
