An office worker suffered injuries in a fall at work because of wires trailing from a desk in her work area. Our expert personal injury lawyers acted on her behalf in a claim against her employer and she received compensation.
Our client’s office accident occurred when she got up from the desk she was working at and walked around it, so that she could plug in a heater. Her foot became entangled in some wires that were dangling over the edge of the desk and she tripped and fell.
The claimant landed heavily on the floor, sustaining injuries to her shoulder, knee and hip. She required hospital treatment and physiotherapy and had to take more than 2 months off work to recover.
After her accident all wires hanging from desks in the office were stowed away safely or taped to the desks to prevent further accidents.
The injured employee felt that her accident could have been prevented if better health and safety precautions had been in place. All tripping hazards should have been removed from the office before her accident was allowed to happen, especially as at least one other incident had occurred previously where someone’s foot became caught in wires.
Our client’s employer denied that they were at fault for the accident however, so we pursued the case to Court. The Judge agreed with us that there was no reason why the employer could not have made the wires safe earlier. Our client was awarded damages in the sum of £4,800 in respect of her personal injury, loss of earnings, and other expenses related to the accident.
