Vibration White Finger Compensation for Council Gardener

The Legal Line’s lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors, have extensive experience in all areas of personal injury, including industrial disease cases. They recently recovered compensation for a gardener who developed vibration white finger through his use of vibrating tools at work.

Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome

Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), often known as Vibration White Finger or VWF, can affect people who work with vibrating equipment for long periods without sufficient rest breaks or job rotation.

The claimant worked as a gardener for a local authority and used strimmers, hedge cutters, edging machines, scarifiers and mowers. He would often have to use vibrating tools on a daily basis for full shifts at a time. Although he had complained to his manager about this excessive exposure to vibration, no action was taken. He developed HAVS as a result and suffers symptoms including pain, tingling and numbness in his fingers with a loss of grip.

Industrial Illness Claim

As he felt his employer was responsible for his condition, the claimant appointed our specialist personal injury lawyers to act on his behalf in a compensation claim.

They contended that the local authority had failed to employ sufficient health and safety or manual handling measures, (such as risk assessments, information and training for employees and a safe system of work) and did not provide adequate protective equipment for the client.

A settlement of £6,000 in damages was recovered on his behalf.
